Applying test optional gives you the opportunity to apply with a depth that reflects who you really are.
Whether you use the Evergreen application or the common application, test-optional admissions is open to all first-year (freshman) applicants including homeschoolers, GED holders, international students, and transfer students with less than 40 transferable credits. Contact your Admissions Counselor for more information.

Applying test optional removes the requirement for SAT or ACT test scores. In place of test scores you will submit a 300-500 word essay responding to the prompt:

First-Year Applicant
Admissions and application requirements
You are considered a First-Year student if:
- You are currently in high school
- Have not attended college after high school or high school equivalency (like the GED)
Admissions Requirements
First Year students qualify for admissions at The Evergreen State College by applying with:
- Unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Completed all college preparatory coursework in high school

Transfer Applicant

You are considered a transfer student if:
- You have graduated with high school diploma or equivalent
- And attended college after earning high school diploma or equivalent
Transfer students who have earned less than 40 transferable credits will apply as a First-Year student.
