Learn the fundamentals of CAD modeling for 3D printing. We'll use free CAD tools (including TinkerCAD, OpenSCAD, and others) to build small models that are targeted to consumer grade FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printers. Our focus will be on using the toolchain to produce models that enable the FDM process to work effectively. We'll explore designing for external parts, lighted sculptures, integrated fasteners, and articulated models with mechanical tolerances. Students will have the option to focus on extended topics like (but not limited to) mesh modeling, slicer optimization, and printer maintenance.
