Develop your own projects and explore your writing process in this craft-intensive program for creative writers. If you have a manuscript or an idea ready to develop, this program will support you in committing yourself to the writing process with in depth feedback from faculty.

Class time (on Zoom) will include short seminars on readings, lectures on craft and process, workshops to sharpen skills and generate ideas, writing exercises and prompts, and "retreat" time to focus on your writing. You'll deepen your engagement with your own writing, build critical reading skills, and refine your editorial eyes and ears. We'll examine stories, essays, and poems and figure out what makes them tick. You'll learn close, creative reading practices, and, in short, learn to read like a writer while receiving thorough feedback from faculty on your writing projects. Assigned readings will be posted online.

Our summer-friendly schedule includes regular class sessions each Tuesday and Thursday evening, 6:00 to 8:50 p.m (online), with additional asynchronous activities, and lots of time to write. Twice in each session, we'll have online Saturday "retreat" sessions, designed for intensive focus on writing with structured support and discussion (Saturdays online, 10:00-4:00: June 28 and 12; August 9 and 23). During the second half of the quarter, some class sessions will be replaced by individual meetings.

This offering is fully remote, allowing students to fully participate from nearby or far away. Students should have access to a computing device appropriate for simultaneously using Zoom, Canvas, and a word-processor. Participation in live (online) sessions is required.
