This course is designed for native and heritage speakers as well as advanced intermediate and advanced learners of Spanish as a second language (those with at least two years of college-level Spanish or equivalent experience). The course will be conducted entirely in Spanish. We will engage with writers, readings, and audiovisual materials coordinated with the ReInterpreting Liberation program, though they can stand alone for those taking the module only. The class seeks to hone students’ communicative capacities in written and spoken Spanish, and expand skills in literary and historical analysis. We will also review grammatical structures with an eye to refining and polishing usage (e.g., preterite vs. imperfect, object pronouns, future and conditional tenses, perfect tenses, and uses of the subjunctive mood). Students will complete weekly grammar homework, class discussions on readings and audiovisual selections, compositions, and an oral presentation each quarter.
This course is a standalone module in the ReInterpreting Liberation program. This means that you can take Advanced Intermediate/Advanced Spanish as part of your 16 credits in the program OR that you can take the 4-credit module alone, without enrolling for the whole program. For the 4-credit option, please contact the faculty directly for permission to enroll.
