This course is designed for native and heritage speakers as well as advanced intermediate and advanced learners of Spanish as a second language (those with at least two years of college-level Spanish or equivalent experience). The course will be conducted entirely in Spanish. The class seeks to hone students’ communicative capacities in written and spoken Spanish, and expand skills in literary and historical analysis through engaging with short readings and audiovisual materials from and about contemporary Latin America. We will review grammatical structures with an eye to refining and polishing usage (e.g., preterite vs. imperfect, object pronouns, future and conditional tenses, perfect tenses, and uses of the subjunctive mood). Students will complete weekly grammar homework, class discussions on readings and audiovisual selections, compositions, and an oral presentation.
