"In a labyrinth, one does not lose oneself. In a labyrinth, one finds oneself" - Hermann Kern

Labyrinths, unlike mazes, possess only one path. This is why cultures across time have used the labyrinth as an externalizing process to meditate on the journey of life, using the path as a reminder that one cannot get off track. Building on this philosophy, this course will approach designing your life's next leap, direction, or even its possible career trajectory, through a series of career counseling inquiries and processes. Facilitated by an experienced career advisor and counselor, we will study the questions of how to integrate our authentic interests into our current and future lives, using both modern and historical psychology and career expanding tools.

Students will learn to use tools to organize their thinking for academic statements as well as other planning and writing related to graduate school applications, resume creation, or general life design. This course will also feature several panels hosting innovative former Greeners (as well as non-alumni) at varying stages of their careers, who will share what it took them to launch and move past the dragons one inevitably encounters in the labyrinth of life. Labyrinthine patterns of growth will be examined as will antidotes to vocational thresholds and sticking points.

Students will explore the questions: What gives me the most vitality and how can I integrate more of it into my life? Where do I want to go next? And finally, what are some practical steps I can take to prepare myself for a new or different career? This course will provide tools for navigating employment and graduate school searches.

This course will support any student who is deeply interested in gaining clarity about their career trajectory.   Those potentially interested in developing careers in counseling, human resources, or other public service roles will especially benefit from the ability to replicate the tools used in class in their future professions, and will be offered an optional educational module that supports identities development for the helping professions, especially related to graduate school selection. Students with an interest in expanding their study into second session may be able to do so if they contact the faculty early on.

Learners of all levels of planning and questioning are welcome, and students who are preparing or about to embark on their journey beyond Evergreen are particularly encouraged to attend.
