Business Finance and Management in Action: How to Start and Operate Financially Successful Enterprises

Enterprises are growth engines for building strong communities and implementing social justice and equity.  This is the third course in the Business Finance and Management series. In this course students will learn how to create, run, and promote financially successful and sustainable business and social enterprises. Learning objectives will include but not limited to fundamentals in business planning, investment decision making process, business economics, financial accounting and managerial accounting. If conditions permit, this program will include an international learning collaborationthat will help students explore issues, challenges, and opportunities that arise from working with business and social enterprises across the boundaries of cultural and economic system differences. 

This program is for students interested in business management and finance, international trade and organization development.  Students will have the opportunity to work on business venture proposals and conduct research and analysis on a variety of enterprise models. 

To successfully participate in this program, students will need internet access, and a computing device (preferably a laptop or desktop, a webcam and microphone). Students can expect the remote teaching to be around 4 - 6 hours of synchronous (scheduled) coursework per week, using Canvas and Zoom. 

Note:  Students selecting the 8-credit option are expected to complete a 4-credit project, by doing either: 1) Internship learning project or 2) Business venture development proposal or 3) Business  case analysis. The content of the project or internship must relate to the program and must be approved by the faculty by the end of the first week of the quarter.
