The contemporary Studio Glass Art Movement is well-known in the Pacific Northwest for its innovative ways of using the medium of glass. In this introductory studio glass art course, we will approach it as sculpture, beginning with learning how to make flexible, re-useable molds from life-casting forms, botanical, organic, and found objects. After assembling your components to create a composition of your design, we will make plaster molds which can be fired to kiln-cast glass art pieces teaching students to manipulate glass into almost any shape. The processes learned will include multiple mold-making techniques, composition, and studio glass art fabrication approaches.

Students can take this class for 4 credits first session, 4 credits second session, or register for 8 credits for full session.

Full-session students will have the opportunity to expand their skill set with additional technical processes. Students joining second session will have the opportunity to learn the material described as well as to work collaboratively with students continuing from first session.
