In this course, students will delve into the world of ceramic studio practices, gaining a comprehensive understanding of essential techniques in both hand-building and wheel-throwing. Projects will explore traditional methods while also incorporating current ceramic technologies. Students will be introduced to various clay types, kiln firing methods, glazing techniques, and other surface treatments. Historical and contemporary applications of ceramic arts will be presented, providing context for the studio work. Through thematically-driven projects, students will develop a strong foundation in both functional and sculptural ceramic work. Written observations and group critiques will provide students with valuable feedback on their creations, fostering critical analysis and growth.
