This course provides a comprehensive introduction to ceramic studio practices. Students will explore various hand-building techniques, beginning with traditional methods like pinch pots and coil building, and progressing towards contemporary approaches. The primary focus will be on functional pottery, with demonstrations and projects emphasizing utilitarian forms. Through thematic assignments, students will develop their personal style while building a strong foundation in both functional and sculptural ceramic work.

Critical analysis of student work will be facilitated through written observations and group discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of ceramic principles and techniques. The course also covers essential topics such as clay types, kiln firing methods, glazing, and surface decoration techniques. Presentations on the history and contemporary applications of ceramic arts will provide valuable context for studio practice.
