This course is designed as an introduction to the art of text and image by examining the history of this art form through the works of artists such as Barbara Kruger, Demian Dine Yazzi, and more. Students will explore varying examples of text and image, learning how to apply these methods into their own poetic or narrative works. Looking into the history and contemporary uses of zines and social activism and graphic memoirs, students will be able to identify elements of text and image, critically examine contemporary works in this medium, and experiment with creating their own visual text and image works.
This course is open to all students of any level.
Class will meet on Wednesday evenings 6pm-9:15pm in person.
