Taught By:
This class will provide students with a strong foundational understanding of the principles and elements of design. Students will learn to use a variety of drawing media, including graphite, charcoal, technical pens, and ink, as well as more experimental mark-making methods to produce informed studies that demonstrate a variety of technical methods.
Students will learn to design hand-drawn compositions that are grounded in established design precepts. Students will develop a context for their work through an independent research project, maintain a sketchbook throughout the quarter, and complete regular design and drawing assignments outside of class. Students will submit a final portfolio of completed assignments for review in a group critique.
Class sessions will be conducted in person. Assignments will support the growth of skills in all students, regardless of skill level. Students can expect to invest 6-8 hours a week to complete all projects outside of class sessions.
