This 2-credit course is focused on experiential learning at the annual Tilth Conference, November 14-16, Vancouver, WA. Alongside keynote speaker Helen Atthowe, we'll consider: “Could ecological farming strategies create healthy and balanced, lower-input ecological farms with healthy soils that grow healthy plants with increased nutrition for humans?” This 50th anniversary Tilth Conference begins with a Research Symposium on “Co-creating Agroecology for Food Systems Transformation,” followed by an afternoon of sampling what is eaten, by whom (including you), at what cost, and according to whose values, during “Taste of PNW Organic.” Friday and Saturday feature workshops, lectures, panel discussions, trade show, keynote, and policy roundtables that bring together farmers, small business owners, wholesalers, food systems workers, organizations, educators, and students to collectively imagine and build solidarity based on the principles of ecology and social equity.

This course includes pre-conference reading and preparatory work, conference postings, and post-conference reflection using hybrid practices through Canvas and optional on campus pre- and post-conference meetings on Tuesdays 10.29 and 11.19 from 4-6 pm.

Scholarships for reduced fees in addition to the discounted costs listed in the fees and special expenses are available and must be applied for individually online BEFORE the October 4 deadline.
