This course will focus on the identification of grant funding sources through careful research as well as the development of strategies for grant applications. Students will learn to seek out grant opportunities and form a prospect list with detailed information on application needs. Students will also learn to compare and contrast differing approaches for grants from foundations, corporations, Tribes, associations, government entities, and other grantmaker types. Culminating in a hands-on project — a complete prospect research list and grants calendar, tailored to a specific organization — students in this course will learn to analyze timing and organizational capacity to develop a comprehensive grant funding strategy.

Students who have taken (or plan to take) Grant Writing are encouraged to take this course to expand their knowledge of the grant writing process. Grant Research and Grant Writing are recommended prerequisites for the spring Introduction to Grants Management course.
