Animation is a moving image and time based medium that allows for ideas and imaginations to come to life. In the world of animation, anything is possible. In this course we will focus on handmade techniques including drawing, cut out, collage, persons, objects, spaces, and puppetry while engaging with basic principles to enrich your understanding of the possibilities afforded to you within this particular art form and craft. Students will work with both physical 2-d and 3-d formats in playful and sometimes collaborative exercises. In addition to the visual, audio and editing will also be utilized as companion and inspiration to your projects. Additionally, historical and current animated works will be screened and discussed throughout the course as they relate to topics being covered. Students will ultimately create a short work using one or more of the techniques discussed in class. Both the narrative and abstract will be welcomed and explored.
