This first quarter of a year-long sequence covers Japanese language studies and is designed for complete beginners. Students will learn how to function in Japanese in everyday situations by learning useful expressions and basic sentence structures. Both hiragana and katakana letters as well as elementary kanji characters will be introduced. Class activities will include presentations and watching video clips on social and cultural topics. We will discuss Japanese culture and life throughout the course.
This is a good preparatory course for students interested in participating in Evergreen's exchange program with University of Miyazaki or University of Hyogo in Japan.
