Leaders live with constant demands from all levels of systems in the organization. They give, give and give and often receive little in return. They are skillful and have leadership habits that work but aren’t always certain about why they work. Leaders are often faced with new demands, requiring new ways of leading and getting results, are in position to influence, work in many complex groups and organization and yet feel isolated. Leadership development happens when people realize it’s as much about their own personal lives as it is about their organizational role. Leadership development is an outward and inward journey that must engage the heart as well as the head—it’s a call to grow personally and in our relationships. We develop as leaders when we are ready and willing to make the hard changes in ourselves. Developing one’s leadership capability is all about personal and professional transformation that will create value for the leader, the team, and the organization. This program is designed for students who wish to understand leadership from a personal and organizational perspective. Throughout the quarter our focus is on “Use of Self” as Leader. We will focus on enhancing your skills to influence and organize others to accomplish key organizational goals. We will spotlight leadership principles, complexities, and challenges as well as explore your strengths and development needs. We will also examine emerging concepts and literature on the value of soul and spirit in the workplace.
