In this introductory course, students will explore the ethical implications of generative artificial intelligence alongside hands-on experience in prompt engineering. Split into two components—an ethics seminar (2 credits) and exploratory prompt engineering (2 credits)—this course encourages critical thinking about AI's role in society and creative engagement with AI technologies.
The ethics seminar will cover key issues such as bias, privacy, accountability, environmental, and the societal impacts of AI. Through discussions, case studies, and collaborative activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of the ethical considerations that shape the development and use of AI systems.
In the exploratory prompt engineering segment, students will engage in practical exercises to craft effective prompts for AI models. They will choose to focus on either a research project or a creative project, applying ethical insights to their work. Students should come prepared with project ideas, whether they involve innovative applications of AI in art, writing, data analysis, or other fields.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to think critically about AI’s ethical dimensions while also gaining hands-on experience in leveraging new AI technologies for meaningful projects.
