Historically, the idea of infinity has caused a lot of thought in the history of the world. The ancient Catholic Church banned the number zero for a period of time, because it led to the ideas of infinity, which brought some interesting consequences that the Church found threatening! The idea of numbers-without-end held up mathematics for hundreds of years until a couple of very clever individuals cracked the code. We will look into this history and these ideas!

The course will work for a whole range of interests and skill levels! Those who wish to learn some of the techniques of calculus will be able to so (and those who don’t, won’t need to). It will also support those who want an introduction to the philosophical issues surrounding math. Math and its implications are all around us. This course will provide insights, opportunities, and tools for many.

This course will help those planning to enter professions in education, law, political economics, environmental science, many of the social sciences, and health care.
