Act, sing and dance every week in this open access musical theater workshop for all ages, all skill levels, all art lovers, and all attitudes! Instrumentalists who want to work in musical theater are also welcome. Subject matter includes music, theater, and film history, performance studies, vocal training, and building a "toolbox" as a performer. No previous training is expected, but we will also accommodate more experienced folks. Project work will be tailored to each student's abilities and experience.
We'll explore a different musical each week as a way to build a toolbox full of useful techniques and ideas to draw from. Each student will be encouraged to find what works (and doesn't work) for them as an individual. We'll also incorporate monologue work, in-depth character work, and how to prepare for both online and in-person auditions. Wear loose comfortable clothing. Consult with a health care provider if you have any worries about participating in warmups, improvisations, rehearsals and performances (also in-house, although we may take a field trip to a nearby professional theater as well). Contact faculty for further information.
