This class will explore how digital photography can be used as a tool for creative documentation. Students will focus on principles of visual documentation in presenting accurate narratives about contemporary social, environmental, and/or personal issues. The course is project based – students will identify, research, and make images on an issue of their choice throughout the entire quarter. Work will culminate in a final portfolio that may take the form of the student’s choice (virtual exhibition, printed zine or photobook, multimedia website, etc.) Final projects must address a particular topic (from your perspective) and clearly communicate your message to a broad audience.
To successfully participate in this program, students will need access to reliable internet, a computer capable of running Adobe programs, and a DSLR camera. DSLR cameras will be available to rent via Media Loan but students must be able to come to campus for equipment pick-up if equipment rental is needed.
This course will be taught in person. Attendance to all class sessions will be expected.
