Precalculus I is problem-solving-based and rigorous overview of functions that model change. We will cover a variety of functions (linear, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic) and represent them algebraically, numerically, graphically, and verbally. There will be an emphasis on context-based problem solving, collaborative learning, and developing mathematical thinking. Students who successfully complete precaclulus I will be prepared for precalculus II.
Collaborative learning will be a fundamental component of the course. Reliable internet access and a graphing calculator, or other graphing software, are required for the course. Students are encouraged to have a camera-enabled device. A small dry-erase board, and markers or a pen-enabled tablet are required. Students should expect 4 hours per week of synchronous meetings using Zoom. Students will have access to alternatives to synchronous participation if conditions require.
