This summer precalculus class is a rigorous, problem-solving-based class that includes elements of Precalculus I and Precalculus II. Class will be held fully in-person with additional support content provided on line. Students who successfully complete this class will be mathematically prepared for Calculus I and programs that include calculus like Models of Motion or Matter and Motion.
We will cover a variety of functions (linear, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, rational, and trigonometric) and represent them algebraically, numerically, graphically, and verbally. In addition, students will work with polar coordinates and curves, parametric curves, and vectors. There will be an emphasis on context-based problem solving and opportunities for collaborative learning.
This precalculus class is designed for students who have an interest in mathematical reasoning and for those who need a more substantial preparation for further study in business, science, math or math education. You are expected to come into the class with a strong foundation in intermediate algebra (or high school algebra 2 or integrated 3). Algebraic Thinking is a good preparatory course for precalculus. A graphing calculator is required for the course.
