The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the practice of local government management. Key issues of contemporary functioning areas of local government will be highlighted. The course addresses challenges facing local government managers and practices for establishing and maintaining successful relationships with elected officials, assistant managers, department heads, other employees, citizens, and representatives of news media, other governments, and other organizations, while pursuing community goals.  In addition to the substantive coverage, the course is also designed to help students determine whether they want to pursue a career in local government and how their skills, interest, and educational training might align with a career in local government.
