This is a studio course on three-dimensional woodcarving and design. Students will learn how to properly and safely use tools to work in fresh alder, cherry, or maple; including how to move from concept to design, how to remove wood and texture the wood surface, and how to finish their work.
Students will carve their own 3D sculptures, each one unique to the individual's identity, culture and/or personal creative expression. Students should have taken a previous course in 3D art and be comfortable with using power tools, hand carving tools, and have a commitment to learning and practicing safety protocols. The class meets all day on Fridays during the first summer school session in Pay3q’ali on the Indigenous Arts campus.

Registration
Students should have taken a previous course in 3D Art, preferably in working in wood.

$150 total fee covers studio use ($50) and wood and carving supplies ($100).
