I am an Adjunct Professor at Evergreen teaching courses in grant writing and nonprofit management. I began writing grants more than twenty years ago and this has been such a meaningful career because my work helps so many communities. It has also allowed me to find the work-life balance I needed to raise a family and travel extensively. I am also a professor at Western Washington University, the Falmouth Institute, and Seattle Central College. I am an approved grant writing trainer by the Grant Professionals Association, Grant Professionals Certification Institute, and Certified Fundraising Executives. I consult for the Grant Professional Association, Instrumentl, 501 Commons, Washington Nonprofits, the Nonprofit Association of Oregon, Idaho Nonprofit Center, the Montana Nonprofit Association, and the Puget Sound Grantwriters Association. I am also a columnist for Candid.org.
Education
M.Ed., Adult Education, Eastern Washington University, 2022; B.A., Psychology, University of Washington, 1996.
Teaching Style
In synchronous classes, I use case- and problem-based instruction in a learner-centric atmosphere that enables students to reflect deeply on the content and build long-term relationships with their learning cohort.
In asynchronous classes, I create engaging online discussions and course content that is easily digestible, with multiple checkpoints to help students feel confident that they are on track.
As students write a grant proposal during the course, I provide feedback to facilitate peer review, taking students from the basics to more advanced concepts.
