Location

I teach writing and visual arts at the Tacoma campus of The Evergreen State College. I was raised in a rural farming community in Indiana in a working-class family, where I came to understand art as a lifeline, a way to process, endure, and make sense of the world around me. I am a first-generation college graduate and a multidisciplinary artist and educator who weaves a deep passion for visual storytelling into every aspect of my teaching. My work is rooted in the belief that creative practice can build connection, foster resilience, and surface truths that often go unspoken, especially in stories shaped by gender, sexuality, and class. I am particularly drawn to narratives centered on women and members of the LGBTQ+ community, whose lived experiences continue to be marginalized or overlooked.

Education

M.F.A., Writing & Contemporary Media, Antioch University - Santa Barbara 2023; B.A., The Evergreen State College, 2008.

Teaching Style

In the classroom, I invite students to think across genres, disciplines, and modalities, developing their ability to analyze, interpret, and create complex narratives rooted in their own experiences. For me, teaching is a collaborative and transformative process, where making meaning together becomes a form of resistance, reflection, and hope.
