I have been a faculty member at Evergreen since 2013, teaching media studies and arts in wide-ranging intensive or interdisciplinary contexts, often linked to gender and sexuality studies. I've also served in curriculum leadership roles for much of this time as a Planning Unit Coordinator, Path Convener, and Curricular Area Team Leader, as well as in leadership roles with United Faculty of Evergreen, our union.
Before coming to Evergreen, I taught at Stanford University as visiting faculty and at Brown University as a graduate and later adjunct instructor. I earned my PhD in the Department of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University and my BA at Swarthmore College.
My research explores vernacular creativity and criticism in lesbian or “sapphic” TV fandom, exploring how queer online communities engage the media industryPand vice versa. Among numerous publications, I co-edited special issues of Transformative Works and Cultures on Fan/Remix Video (2012) and Queer Female Fandom (2017).

Teaching Style
I approach media with a commitment to connecting theory and practice; that's #5 on the Six Expectations of an Evergreen Graduate, but my most rewarding teaching moments happen when all six come together to empower deep student-oriented work. I believe that teaching well is a practice of social justice, and I'm passionate about making this transformative education more equitable for Evergreen's diverse student body, most of whom belong to one or more underrepresented groups.
