"I see my job as somebody who supports students in maximizing their global experiences. That happens primarily in helping them prepare for their international experiences, advocating for global engagement at the college level."
Brynn Smith is the Associate Director for International Programs and Services and she became interested in study abroad and international education as a student studying finance after she spent a semester in Ecuador.
"When I was finishing undergrad my parents suggested that I work as a study abroad advisor since my experience had such a strong impact. I worked in financial education as an Americorps member, working with low income individuals and found that I was using the skills I had developed during my semester abroad - suspending judgement, meeting folks where they were, and appreciating and understanding others' lived experiences."
Brynn works with students planning their study abroad and international experiences at Evergreen, but she would love to see this work expand and change to allow for greater accessibility to global education. Part of this is eliminating barriers to entry like cost. One way Evergreen works to support Study Abroad students in by partnering with consortium and exchange programs that have more options to meet students where they are.
