A Legacy for Raquel Salinas
Transforming Lives
Dolly England ’05, a first-generation scholarship recipient from a lower middle-class, mixed-raced family, was deeply impacted by Raquel Salinas ’91, MiT ’96, Coordinator of Student Support Programs at Evergreen. Dolly reflects on Raquel's life-changing influence, stating, "Raquel was a truly important person in my young adult life and is the reason I didn't drop out of college. Because of caring, inspired, compassionate people like Raquel, thousands of black and brown students were able to succeed at The Evergreen State College.” Dolly, moved by her journey, gives monthly to the Raquel Salinas Memorial Scholarship, which honors Raquel's legacy and supports low-income students of color and those with disabilities. Her story is a testament to the positive ripple effect one person's determination can have on countless lives.
