Ready to join the Evergreen family? Then let’s get started. First-Year students qualify for admissions when they’ve fulfilled the following:

  • Completed all college preparatory coursework in high school

  • Unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher

What’s a First-Year?

You are considered a first-year student if you are currently in high school, have not attended college after high school or after receiving a high school equivalency (like the GED).

What’s in a First-Year Application?

  • Online application
  • $50 application fee (waivers available)
  • Official high school transcripts (must originate from either a school, college, or a digital transcript service)
  • Official (SAT or ACT) test scores
  • Or essay when applying test optional

Admissions Criteria for First-Year Students

FIrst-year (aka freshman) applicants begin by completing all necessary college preparatory coursework in high school to be considered for admission.

Test Optional Essay

Evergreen uses test-optional admission.

Tests not your jam? Instead of submitting test scores, you can submit an essay that answers the following question:

How has your experience prepared you to attend The Evergreen State college?

Make sure your essay:

  • Is 300–500 words in length
  • Uploaded as a PDF or Word file
  • Includes your full name and birth date

Running Start/Concurrent Enrollment

Any college credits you earned while attending high school may transfer into Evergreen.

Any college credits you earned while attending high school may transfer into Evergreen and count towards your bachelor’s degree, including your associate degree.

Submit your official college transcripts with your official high school transcripts.

You can also transfer in college credit through:

AP Exams – Submit official AP scores.

CLEP – Submit your official CLEP scores.

Home School and Unschool

We will need record of the academic work accomplished.

We will need record of the academic work accomplished. Home school and Unschool transcripts vary in the way they look. No matter how they look, requirements have the same college preparatory coursework.

GED or Other High School Equivalencies

Submit your official GED scores in place of your official transcripts.

GED – Please submit your official GED scores in place of your official transcripts. GED test scores can be ordered here.

High School Completion – please submit your high school completion portfolio in place of your official high school transcripts. Your portfolio can be ordered through the college that awarded the high school completion.

25+ Years Old (Alternative Admissions Process)

If you are over the age of 25 you qualify for Evergreen's alternative admissions process.

If you are over the age of 25 and have not attended college after high school, you qualify for Evergreen's alternative admissions process. Your application must contain the following:

  • Online application
  • $50 application fee (waivers available)

Two of the following:

  • Official high school transcripts with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • A 300-500 word Essay responding to the prompt: How has your experience prepared you to attend The Evergreen State college?
  • A current resume

Apply by Mail 

If you prefer to apply or pay your fee by mail, send us a completed paper application (PDF), along with a check or money order. You can also apply online and send the fee by mail. Please do not send cash.
