Graduate Application Process

How to Apply

Each graduate program has an individual application process

Review Application Requirements

Each program has specific application requirements based on the needs and expectations of its curriculum. Students apply directly to their program of interest and work with program staff to determine their needs throughout and after the application process. 

Application Deadlines Vary by Program

While deadlines are program specific, most have a multi-round application cycle. Check individual application pages for specific application deadlines. Applying to earlier deadlines gives you a better chance of being approved for need-based grants and scholarships. 

Complete Your Application 

Use the online application system to complete your application and pay your application fee. An application is only considered complete when we receive the online application, letters of recommendation, transcripts, resume, program specific application materials and application fee.

Graduate programs will review submitted applications and notify applicants with admissions decisions. Students should reach out to the individual program with questions regarding the status of their application.

Graduate Admission Requirements

Minimum admission requirements

These are the minimum admission requirements for graduate applications. Each program has its own additional criteria, review this on their application page. 

Bachelors Degree 

Applicants will need to have earned a bachelor’s degree from an approved accredited institution of higher education before enrolling in a masters program at Evergreen. Prospecitve students may apply before their bachelors degree is complete. 

Transcripts 

Applicants will need to submit an official transcripts from any institution where they have earned a degree. Some programs may require additional unofficial transcripts, review program application requirements carefully, Evergreen Alumni can order transcripts online.

Letters of Recommendation 

Applicants will provide letters of recommendation as part of their application materials. The number of recommenders and the content is program specific. Make sure to contact yoru recommenders in advance so they can expect our communication.

Resume

Applicants submit a resume highlighting key employment or other experiences relevant to their program of interest. Applicants should include any significant public and community service activities. 

Paying for Graduate School

There are many ways for you to offset the cost of your degree, including scholarships, need-based grants, paid-internships and loans. You may use a variety of internal and external sources to fund their degree. Review each program's Cost and Aid page for specific scholarships and aid opportunities. 

Once you have identified your sources of funding make sure you are familiar with their application processes, requirements and deadlines. Deadlines for Financial Aid and other sources may be before or after the program's final application deadline, plan accordingly.

After applying keep your eye out for your decision letter. Decisions are sent out based on when you applied. Contact programs directly for questions about your application status.

Once you're admitted, we'll help you apply for program-related jobs and internships, advise you on prerequisites, help you find housing resources and answer questions about financial aid. We’ll keep you informed all the way up until you start classes!

Next steps for admitted graduate students

Congratulations on your acceptance to graduate school! Take these steps to complete your enrollment. Have questions? Reach out to graduateadmissions@evergreen.edu or contact your program staff. 

Connect with Program Staff

If you have not already, connect with your program staff for next steps specific to your program such as graduate student orientation, assistance with registration, and more. 

Accept Enrollment and Pay Deposit 

To accept your offer of admission and commit to attending Evergreen, submit the $100 tuition deposit no later than the date listed on your admit letter or email. Pay your deposit online through your My Evergreen account, by mail or in person. 

Gain Access to Evergreen Accounts and Resources 

Set up your student email and My Evergreen accounts. This will allow you to access your online accounts, Evergreen log-ins and register for courses. If you need help, please submit an IT support request at help.evergreen.edu

You'll receive activation instructions from accountactivation@evergreen.edu at the personal email you provided in your application. Once your Evergreen email is set up, this will be your primary way to communicate with Evergreen offices, staff, and faculty and how we will communicate with you. 

If you can’t find your activation email, check your spam/junk folders and search for “@evergreen.edu”

Complete Health Forms

All registered Evergreen students must complete their health forms and submit them to Health and Wellness before attending classes. Schedule appointments and upload documentation online on My Evergreen.

Get Student ID

Your ID card gets you into Evergreen, keeps track of your meal plan and can even get you discounts around town. Apply for your ID online or visit Registration and Records in-person to get your ID.

Get Parking Permit

Parking passes are required to park at the Olympia Campus. Make sure you get your parking permit before attending classes. Parking permits are not required at Evergreen Tacoma, however parking is limited and on first-come basis.

Students enrolling at Evergreen from outside the United States have special requirements, such as visa forms and international student orientation. Contact International Student Services to make sure you are on the right track.
