Admissions Requirements

First-Year Admissions 

First-year students are defined as: applying to college for the first time after high school graduation.

First-year Students must meet the following criteria to be admitted:

1. At least a 2.0 unweighted high school grade point average (GPA) or equivalent.
2. SAT/ACT scores or Essay
3. Complete College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs)*

*Students can be missing up to 3 years of CADRs and still be admissible.

Alternative admission track for first-year students over the age of 25. Meeting two of the following standards:

1. Essay demonstrating critical thinking and communication skills.
   1. Responding to the prompt: “What has prepared you to study at the Evergreen State College.
2. A minimum of 2.5 unweighted high school grade point average.
3. Present evidence of success outside the classroom and strong motivation to succeed in college. (Interview, resume, letter(s) of recommendation)

Transfer Admissions

Transfer Students are defined as: students applying with credits of college-level coursework earned after high school graduation or equivalency.

Transfer Students must meet the following criteria to be admitted:

1. 2.0 Cumulative grade point average GPA
2. 2.0 grade point average (GPA) in the quarter prior to application.

Admission does not imply enrollment in specific courses or programs. Many of Evergreen’s programs are competitive, especially at the upper-division level.

Move Your Application

Prior to being admitted you can move your application to a different start term than originally indicated on your submitted application. A move can be made to any quarter within a year of the originally selected start term. Each applicant may move their application once.

Defer Enrollment

An enrollment deferral allows an admitted student to postpone their enrollment up to one year after the start quarter for their original application.

Any scholarships awarded by the Office of Admissions will also be deferred to the updated term if funding remains available.

Deferrals are only available for admitted students who have paid the non-refundable $250 enrollment deposit. The Evergreen State College will evaluate deferral requests on a case-by-case basis.

Should circumstances change, and the student wishes to begin sooner, they may contact the Office of Admissions to determine space availability. Until a deferral request has been granted, it is the student’s responsibility to complete all enrollment procedures for their initial application.

Admissions Appeal

An admission appeal is a request for reevaluation of the application for a student who has been denied admission to The Evergreen State College. Generally, applicants appeal if they believe their academic or personal circumstances could not be considered adequately through the usual application review process or that an error occurred in that review. It is important to note that admission to Evergreen is competitive and decisions are rarely overturned. Keep in mind that we already reviewed your entire file and expected you to present everything of significance in the initial application.

To appeal, an applicant must submit this form with a letter of appeal. The appeal process does not include a personal interview, but you may speak with an admissions counselor at any time if you have questions.

Appeals must be submitted by the appeal deadline.

Appeals made after the appeal deadline will be considered for the next quarter.

Conditional Admissions

Students who fall below the general admissions standards or show signs of needing extra support may be offered conditional admission. To accept conditional admissions students must fill out the conditional admissions form and return it to the admissions office.

Conditionally admitted students work with their Academic and Career Advisor to create an academic plan and have regular check in during the students first quarter.

A conditionally admitted student is offered full admission after they have earned at least 75% of their credits in their first quarter. Should a student fall below they will go under review where their admissions status may be revoked or renewed for another quarter.
