This course will introduce students to painting through an investigation of landscape, portraits, the nude figure and still-life. It will provide a foundation for painting with gouache on paper through mostly synchronous Zoom sessions, with a strong focus on color theory. Emphasis will be placed on developing technical skills through observational painting, while researching art historically significant works to develop a personal vision. No prerequisites are required, though a background in the basics of drawing is recommended.
Our work will be conducted remotely using both Canvas and Zoom. Students can expect our remote teaching to be up to 3 hours of remote meeting per week and roughly 5-7 hours of asynchronous coursework/independent work time per week, using Canvas and Zoom.
