What happens after you complete your request
Safety Lecture
If you have not attended a safety lecture yet for the academic year, your SIT will arrange one for you before you begin your project.
Individual Learning Contracts with Science Support
We would love to support your Individual Study research project! Students looking for project support for an Individual Learning Contract (ILC) must complete both the ILC approval process and the science support.
Completing Your Individual Learning Contract
- Go to My Evergreen and select "Individual Study Contracts"
- Follow the online application prompts to begin your ILC application
- Visit Individual Study for more information about completing contracts
- If you need staff support for experimental methods or SOP development, include an SIT as a subcontractor on your ILC
- Indicate your project needs "Science Support" when you apply online
- During the approval process, complete the applicable Project Support forms
Due to limited resources and availability, ILC approval is not a guarantee that equipment, lab space, and/or technical support will be available during your ILC project. Contact us with any questions.
Graduate Student Support
Our science support staff often play an active role in the support of graduate student research projects. Request project support to get help with performing research in a lab space, getting staff support, taking equipment into the field.
MES Students
There are assignable research spaces available for Master of Environmental Studies students conducting research.
Collecting Animals for Research
Interested in collecting animals as a component of your research? Work with faculty to use state permits and collect a variety of specimens.
Animal Collection and Permits
Collecting specimen for scientific research
Evergreen has state collection permits that cover three different collection classifications:
- Salvage (animal must be found deceased)
- Marine organisms
- Terrestrial and freshwater invertebrates
You must work under the supervision of the faculty member who holds the collection permit. Permits are not modifiable regarding taxon, location, or gear.
In accordance with state and federal guidelines, if living specimens are collected and release is intended, it must occur immediately following collection in the location of capture. It is not permitted to release organisms after they have been brought to the laboratory.
The state permitting process takes a minimum of two months for review, so advanced planning by you and your faculty is necessary for collecting events outside of existing permits. For more information contact sit@evergreen.edu.
